BMW has become the largest car exporter in the US for five consecutive years

According to a Reuters report on March 8, the German automaker BMW said on March 8 that in 2018, a total of 234,689 X-series SUVs were exported from the plant in Spartanburg, South Carolina. The coupe, with a total export value of more than 8.4 billion US dollars, has been the largest exporter of automobiles in the United States for five consecutive years.

On the occasion of the announcement of the US export report by BMW, US President Trump has threatened to impose tariffs of up to 25% on imported cars and parts. However, automakers warn that levying such high tariffs on imported cars and parts will add thousands of dollars in car costs and is likely to damage the US economy because auto companies have to lay off employees in order to maintain profits.

Knudt Flor, President and CEO of BMW Manufacturing Co LLC, said: “Although trade and tariffs are uncertain, the Spartanburg plant continues to make a positive contribution to the US trade balance.

South Carolina’s Commerce Secretary Bobby Hitt also said: “The partnership between BMW and South Carolina continues to deepen, which is the fact that our state is still leading the country in terms of vehicle export sales. It can be seen.”
