[Global Network Comprehensive Report] According to a report by Reuters on March 15, two German media sources said that BMW and Daimler have jointly negotiated the development of an electric vehicle platform, which will save at least 7 billion euros for both parties. expenditure.

The two automakers have already launched a joint procurement project and have recently expanded their cooperation to advanced driver assistance system development and travel services. However, the German media “Süddeut Zeitung” and “Car Illustrated” said that the negotiations on the cooperation in the development of electric vehicle platforms are still likely to break down.

Both BMW and Daimler acknowledged that the cooperation negotiations included sharing the cost of unmanned engineering, but both sides declined to comment when asked if the future cooperation involved the electric vehicle platform.

In November 2018, BMW Finance Director said that he was open to deepening cooperation with Daimler, but believed that it is difficult to have a win-win opportunity in the field of shared car platforms. “Automotive Illustrated” said that the two sides are discussing whether to share the cost of R&D engineering for compact and medium-sized cars, both of which are powered by the “electric version first” and equipped with a transmission power system.

According to the report, the talks will save the two sides a total of 7 billion euros in seven years. “Süddeutsche Zeitung” revealed that BMW and Daimler are seeking to save more money. If the scope of cooperation also includes large cars, the cost savings will be even greater. In response, the two sides declined to comment.
