Subra Suresh, president of Nanyang Polytechnic University in Singapore, said that in the next few weeks or months, an unmanned electric bus will be tested on campus and will be tested on public roads after approval by the relevant authorities. He hopes that the test project will be carried out on public roads within one year. In addition, the second unmanned electric bus will be tested at the bus stop.

Volvo and NTU said that the 12-meter-long bus can accommodate 80 passengers and is the world’s first full-size unmanned electric bus. Volvo Bus President Håkan Agnevall said: “This is the model adopted by the operator, which is why it has become a milestone.”

Singapore is densely populated and has always encouraged the development of driverless technology, advocating the use of shared cars and other public transportation.

Recently, KPMG conducted a survey of the popularity and readiness of self-driving cars around the world, with Singapore ranking second among the two indicators. Singapore plans to deploy driverless buses on public roads in three districts starting in 2022.
