Audi: 12-minute fast charging of electric vehicles from 2020

[Global Network comprehensive report] According to foreign media reports, Audi said that by 2020, Audi electric models will be able to quickly charge to 80% in less than 12 minutes.

Audi has just released its first pure electric vehicle, the E-tron SUV, which uses its 150 kW fast charger, which is now available across Europe, to charge 80% in 30 minutes. However, as part of the Ionity charging network jointly owned by companies such as Audi, BMW, Ford and Mercedes, these 150 kW chargers already have a 350 kW charging function. Only after the battery technology is further developed can be upgraded.

Johannes Eckstein, senior product marketing manager at Audi, confirmed that Audi’s third electric vehicle, the E-tron GT, will be the first to have a 350 kW rechargeable battery in 2020. At present, battery technology is not advanced enough to accommodate the current of 350 kW of charging, but the next generation of batteries, such as the expected E-tron GT, will achieve this goal.

“Hour Range Anxiety” is a major obstacle to the popularity of electric vehicles, so charging an electric car in 10 minutes will have a huge impact on experience and usability. This news coincides with the statement of the brother brand Porsche. Porsche claims that its Taycan electric car, which will be launched in 2020, will be able to support a 400-kilometer journey in about 15 minutes with a 350-kilowatt charging pile.
