For many high-end automakers, the US is the largest sales market, and McLaren is no exception. In 2018, the US market accounted for one of the three global sales. At the same time, sales in China increased by 122%, accounting for 7% of the company’s global sales.
Since the establishment of the brand in 2010, the sales of McLaren civilian sports cars have increased year by year. The company’s goal is to continue this growth, with annual sales reaching 6,000 by 2025. The target is part of the Track25 business plan. In addition, 18 new models such as the limited edition 600LT and Senna will be launched, while the 720 Spider, Speedtail hypercar, and 600LT Spider models will be available soon.
McLaren is a maverick in today’s market trend, and has not launched SUV models so far, and stressed that such models will not be launched. SUV models have been very profitable. Since the Porsche Cayenne in 2002, Bentley, Maserati, Rolls Royce and Lamborghini, Aston Martin and Ferrari have all released SUVs.
Flewitt said in an interview with the media: “The cost of building an SUV is very high. We don’t have the engineering support needed to build such a car.” McLaren has to provide an alternative version for all models, in the next five years. The company plans to provide an electric version for each model, and is considering whether to launch a pure electric car.
